Resolved the problem. The OSD for the gaming app was activated alongside the FPS counter, VRAM, etc.

geforce experience offers a FPS counter, though it resembles the FRAPS display more than usual—a prominent yellow figure. The Steam FPS counter appears as a small green value. I keep it active, and it doesn’t interfere much. I’m not sure what the red digits represent, but they seem similar to MSI Afterburner or Riva Tuner.
