Lead author Chris Schlerf crafted the material. That covers the basics. Likely this secures a spot for you in the game. Senior Development Head Chris Wynn (from Gears of War) Producer Fabrice Condominas (Mass Effect 3) Lead designer Ian Frazier (Dawn of War: Soulstorm, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning) Art supervisor Joel MacMillan (Jade Empire, Mass Effect) Creative lead Mac Walters took charge. He handled the ending alone, without team input, and was fast-tracked for promotion. Producer Mike Gamble (Mass Effect) led the studio at BioWare Montréal. Yanick Roy contributed to Mass Effect. No input from Patrick Weekes, who voiced criticism of the ending Mac Walters authored. He reportedly presented it to EA executives before being promoted. I’m curious about the hiring process and promotion paths for these roles, especially given the perceived short resumes. Halo 4 doesn’t seem to stand out in terms of narrative, yet someone secured the top writing position? It’s hard to believe with Bioware’s talent pool. My confidence in this project has plummeted. They could simply repackage the series as a Halo title. CDPR, you’re our best chance for RPGs.

It seemed enough to earn a promotion, though I can't really speak about Halo tales. Neogaf seems to strongly dislike the Halo 4 narrative. I’d struggle to understand the lore without more context. I only played Halo for about 30 minutes—mainly in multiplayer with everyone else—and then switched back to Starsiege Tribes, my jetpack, and Unreal Tourney. The combat didn’t impress me compared to PC titles. The only controller FPS I enjoyed was Golden Eye 64. That probably means I’m not as familiar with Halo as most people here. I know he’s a space marine like Doom, and he has an AI companion named Cortana, but that’s about all I know.

Well, even if he didn't get promoted, Patrick Weekes is still likely on the writing staff? Unless there's been mention somewhere that he's been fired? I don't know enough about the Halo franchise to have any idea if Halo 4 is any good. Still, seeing Mac Walters getting promoted is disappointing. I'd like to hope his job will mainly be managerial and leave the creative work to more competent writers, but that might not be terribly likely.

Patrick Weekes has been contributing to Dragon Age: Inquisition after development wrapped up for ME3. It's unclear if he'll return to the Mass Effect writing group, since single-player DLC for Inquisition might be added and he could join its creation.
