Andromeda's release was disappointing.
I finally chose to begin playing Andromeda because I now have enough free time, but to my surprise, it’s completely unplayable. I experience lag and stutter in the start menu alone. Once inside the game, I’m hit with severe stuttering, lag, freezing for a few seconds, frame skipping, and fluctuating FPS. I’m really shocked—my PC should handle it fine.
According to my understanding, this application performs optimally with Nvidia graphics cards.
The experience was challenging beyond just a flickering frame rate. I followed the clean reinstall driver recommendations. With a GTX 1080 running at 4K, my performance dropped significantly. I adjusted several settings and limited the frame rate to around 30 FPS for better consistency. Raising the resolution to 90% helped improve the lower frames. I was focused on achieving 4K quality, even though it affected other aspects of the game. Now I’m not sure if 4K is worth it, but I’m wondering how stable I could reach 60 FPS at 1080p. The game itself isn’t great, so I’m unsure if I’ll ever play it again.
Minor updates, I was still working through the prologue while playing. After a few moments of lag, the game stabilized and became playable. It feels like the game is still loading files or using RAM/OS pagefile even when the level just starts—maybe 8 GB isn’t enough for smooth performance. Andromeda is around 50 GB, but it’s not an open world like GTA V, which I run without major problems. Unless the game files on my HDD are compressed or something to reduce size. Overall, I don’t think it’s a driver issue and I haven’t had any problems with other games.
I own a comparable setup. It’s an I5 4460 with an RX480 GPU, 4GB GDDR3 at 1600MHz, and 16GB DDR3 RAM. I run it in ultra mode at 1080P, capping the monitor at 60 FPS. Only when background processes start does the frame rate drop. I notice it typically uses around 8GB of RAM while the game is active. This could mean you're being limited by your memory usage.
Have you experimented with lowering the visual options? Just to be sure, what happens when you adjust everything to its simplest level?
