I'm hoping someone with more experience can assist with this inquiry.
I'm exploring options for setting up a data storage connection for my home network.
All the information I've found suggests purchasing a NAS is the only viable solution, which seems costly.
My current setup includes a Deco XE70 without USB ports, a standard ISP modem router, and some unused Android TV Boxes.
I'm wondering if I could link one of those Android Boxes to my external 2TB hard drive via USB and use its WiFi to connect my home network WiFi, functioning as a wireless NAS.
I was thinking about downloading file management software through Google Play.
Could anyone confirm if this is possible and explain the steps?
If not, please let me know why.
Apologies if this seems like a simple question—I'm trying to avoid unnecessary expenses and also want to reuse the Android boxes.

Yes, connecting the HDD allows the android box to access it and play media files from there

You likely need to share a folder on your Android device before it appears in Windows. This guide (or similar ones) might offer ideas, but I haven't found anything specifically about Windows at the start of the link.

If you own an older PC or laptop, you can create your own NAS for a fraction of the cost of a commercial unit. No need to invest in expensive NAS devices. Network Attached Storage comes in various forms. What you require is just network access and a storage medium.
