I have an old setup that I'm enjoying experimenting with.
It features a Pentium 4 with a 2.8ghz clock speed and 800MHz FSB, HT support, 1GB RAM, an FX 5700 Ultra, and a 30GB IDE hard drive from a system built in 1999.
The operating system is Windows XP.
I've found the motherboard details here: http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDet...-us0000099
I have several questions, so I hope you can understand.
What does it mean when the motherboard lists 800MHz FSB overclocking?
I'm trying to boost the CPU speed, but I'm unsure if the board supports it—do you have any software that could handle this in Windows?
For the GPU, I found some tools that didn't work on an old GPU; do you know of alternatives that might work for that model?
The overall performance is quite slow when browsing the web. Even though it's a Pentium 4, it feels much slower than other older models I've used. Is this due to the RAM, the hard drive, or something else?
I really appreciate any help you can offer.

It's socket 478, so it's a 32-bit CPU. It uses DDR memory instead of DDR2, which makes the memory slower. An 800 fsb overclock means the BIOS should support a 667 fsb CPU running at 800 fsb for an overclock. The fastest Pentium 4 3.8GHz LGA775 will perform similarly to the slowest 1.8Ghz Core2Duo. A 2GB RAM limit will make the OS frequently access the IDE hard drive.

You might consider using a lighter Linux distribution and test it.
