A few days back my monitor stopped working properly—it began flickering colors erratically and the power button wouldn’t turn off. After unplugging and plugging it back in, I followed online instructions, but it still wouldn’t power on. The device is around 4–5 years old, so it’s possible but not impossible. Recently, my PC also failed to turn on its microphone (HyperX Quadcast X). I tried the troubleshooting steps but it didn’t appear in Device Manager, and even when I connected it to another PC, it still wouldn’t work. Other peripherals and systems were fine. I’m unsure if this is just bad luck or something more serious like a faulty motherboard (X570 AORUS Elite Wi-Fi, system about 4 years old). I don’t know what to do next and would really appreciate any advice.
A system that's four years old seems quite advanced for its age. It's normal to notice some issues around this time. If your microphone is also four years old, problems might arise. I share your thoughts on the speakers. I own a set of Bose 901s I acquired during my time in Korat, Thailand at the conclusion of the Vietnam conflict, and they function perfectly fine to this day.
I believe the only issues that occurred were already present, and if it was a mobile shorting, another component might have been impacted, like my 6-8 year old mouse. That’s why I changed the cords and used new peripherals (with warranties) and will continue as planned. I truly think it’s just bad luck, but I panicked because it felt unusual.
