Analyzing the matchup between Ram Cl 18 and Ram Cl 16.
The options available here are quite limited, especially in my region. I’m mainly stuck between a 3200 MHz CL16 (part CMG8GX4M1E3200C16) and a 3600 MHz CL18 (part CMW16GX4M2D3600C18). The 5700x still isn’t clear, so help would be really appreciated.
Cas doesn't prioritize performance, so avoid spending on low CL unless targeting a particular model like the 3200c14 Samsung Bdie. It mainly serves as a timing tool for organizing RAM I/O and slightly boosting benchmark results. The 3600c18 offers better value compared to the 3200c16 in terms of actual performance. Don't get caught up in branding—most ICS are produced by similar companies (Samsung, Hynix, Micron, EMPIDA, etc.). Look for the most affordable 3600c18 available.
I just want to highlight the timing aspects mainly in the title. Measurements like tCL are based on clock cycles, so without knowing how they relate to frequency, the actual CAS latency isn't important. If you compute the CAS latency using tCL and data rate, you'll find around 10ns. That said, CAS latency isn't a major factor for memory timing; what really counts is (tCL + tRCD + 4) multiplied by 2000 divided by the data rate. This gives 25ns for the 3200 CL16-20-20 and 24.4ns for the 3600 CL18-22-22. Therefore, the 3600 CL18 kit performs better in that case. Also, since Ryzen uses FCLK closely tied to memory speed, a higher FCLK usually helps more, even if it means slightly more memory latency. In short, if prices are similar, go with the 3600 CL18 kit for overall speed. TL;DR: choose the 3600 CL18 kit if budget allows.
They cost the same overall. With the discount, the CL 18 models become more affordable. Thanks a lot!
