obs supports nvenc too, and it runs with minimal CPU consumption—around 12-15% on my core i5.
It's not important for you to play FFXIV if you're not into WoW or similar games. When I tried it, WoW was already outdated and likely wouldn't run well. Requirements might have changed in later expansions. I'll start with Shadowplay since I already have it.
I discovered something useful for configuring 16:9 recordings at your desired quality. You can use it as your background image, adjust the game size, and then switch it back to your desktop wallpaper.
Another person already talked about using OBS with NVENC. That could be worth a look. If you're able to record in 2160p at 60fps (which I assume is typical), your card should handle 3440x1440 at 60fps smoothly, especially with a good bitrate.
I just started using shadowplay. The first recording ran with almost no CPU load, but I was let down when it automatically scaled my output to 1080p even though I chose "use game resolution." When I set it to 1440p, it worked fine. At 1080p it took roughly three minutes per GB. I haven’t tried 1440p yet.
