Analog joystick paired with keypad and mouse, Xim Apex options? Software alternatives available.
Hi,
I recently purchased a Swiftpoint Z mouse and started considering switching my movement controls from WASD to analog. The mouse supports analog features, but using it for movement without a joystick isn’t very effective. I then decided to try the Logitech G13 keypad because it includes an analog joystick that works well in the system, though integrating it with a mouse has its challenges.
Game requirements vary—such as in SOTTR, I can use the joystick for movement while still controlling the camera and aiming with a mouse. However, in Mad Max, using two devices simultaneously causes conflicts, making it hard to move the camera while using analog stick. In AC: Origins allows both devices to function together, but the input conflicts often lead to bugs, which isn’t typical behavior for the game. If you use an Xbox controller, normal play still doesn’t let you use a mouse and gamepad at the same time without issues.
Any reliable method exists to combine these inputs? My goal is to maintain the same workflow as before—keyboard and mouse with analog joystick for movement—but keep the camera and aim controlled via mouse.
So far, Xim Apex seems like the most obvious option (around 170$). It’s quite pricey, but it appears to be a fully reliable solution. Are others using it and willing to share their experiences?
I’ve also tried x360ce because my mouse’s analog support uses DirectInput instead of XInput, but the setup is inconsistent and frustrating, especially for games that demand extensive configuration like SLI or modding. I’m not keen on relying on that approach.
Do you have any better alternatives to Xim, or should I just proceed with the current setup?
Thanks in advance.
