Hello, I observed some Group Policy settings today that caught my attention. It seemed unusual since my system was freshly built, owned privately, properly activated, and not linked to any domain. With UAC turned off and no standalone antivirus installed, I follow common sense and worry about software updates being applied unexpectedly. The only external factor is the irritating pixies outside. My laptop and three other machines in the network use the same .NetPassport account with identical credentials, but they’re unaffected except for a few issues. I’ve tried running rstrui back to last month without much success, except for the loss of one or two entries. There’s a backup M.2 drive available if I need to restore something safely, though it would be risky. I’d prefer to understand what caused this and find a way to reverse it. My attempts with troubleshooting tools have been frustrating, especially since my NAS is exposed online and I want to protect bandwidth. If possible, could you help me remove my private computer from the group? Also, if this was previously addressed, please accept my apology ahead of time—I’ll explain further once this is discussed.

GPEDIT.msc is a helpful tool, but it might be tricky to find the settings. Your automatic updates seem turned off, and the re-enable buttons could be hidden. You might be using something like OOShutUp10! or Spybot anti-beacon, which can affect how data is handled. These programs can alter AU values and the amount of telemetry transmitted back.

From what I understand, the updates aren't actually turned off. I don’t have any special anti-spyware tools installed. I checked the group policy manager, but found a different utility meant to display all applied policies—still can’t figure it out (being a hardware person). I noticed the bottom line clearly states automatic updates are disabled. The version number is still 19042.985, so I should be safe for another week, though it’s still worrying me. I’ve tested my dual E5630, Dual E5-2695-V2 and 3750H builds, but nothing shows up.

Navigate to Settings > Account > Access Work or School and check the available options there.
