I mostly skipped all overclocking until a situation demanded undervolting on my 2700X. At default settings it performs poorly: overheating, only reaching 4.1 during idle and 3.9 under stress tests. When PBO is on with -0.05V core offset, idle hits 4.15-4.2, gaming stays in 4.1-4.15, and stress drops to 4.0. But it still runs hotter than ideal. To control temperatures better, I’m setting multipliers and voltages manually. The issue is that at 4.0 it only works at 1.3V and can’t maintain a steady 4.1 even at 1.45V—I’d really like 4.0 at 1.25V and 4.1 at 1.35V. I don’t want to touch BCLK because an M.2 SSD is installed. Is this just poor silicon or can there be a fix?
My 2700x tends to overheat. I once pushed it to 4.0GHz but never got consistent performance. Now it only runs smoothly at default speeds without PBO. When PBO is turned on, the system becomes unstable, but disabling it helps keep things cooler.
