I updated the Intel cooler and handled some cable connections for my dad’s PC. When we power it on, it behaves unpredictably. Here’s what happened so far: * BIOS rejects XMP settings and stops working. It also attempted to revert to previous stable configurations. XMP functioned before. * Passes BIOS but tries to scan and fix the Windows disk. Doing this causes a boot loop. * Pressing any key to bypass the disk check leads directly to the Windows login screen. Once logged in, Windows 10 displays a black screen with just a cursor. This suggests something is amiss. I suspect a small amount of thermal paste may have stuck to the socket, though all pins appear normal and the Core i5 is recognized in BIOS. The motherboard confirmed the CPU was changed at startup. Also worth mentioning: this machine has three hard drives—a Samsung 970 Evo in a PCIE slot, a 2.5 SATA SSD, and a spinning HDD. The BIOS recognizes them all. The PCIe card was connected via a SATA cable, but if the drive is NVMe, that shouldn’t affect things. I’m still confused. See previous post:
