An interesting piece on misconceptions held by PC gamers
I checked the article and found several claims about PC gamers that seem questionable. It appears some of the points are based on assumptions rather than solid evidence. I encourage you to review it and form your own opinion.
Certainly, having a potato for a PC won't enhance the visuals. Arkham Knight did better on consoles initially when it was released. A few accurate comments, though it leans heavily on exaggeration. Clearly, an article meant to spark reactions.
It's partially true in certain areas, but I really dislike trivial comments like "Destiny looks better on PS4" since it's a console-exclusive, or remarks about bad ports. Still, fans from both sides should sometimes be more open-minded.
1.) Destiny isn't even available on PC. Nonetheless, honestly, PC titles can appear more polished thanks to better hardware. They also made a mistake by thinking extra RAM automatically improves visuals. That’s not true. Good graphics cards aren’t cheap, and they’re overstating the price of a decent one.
2.) The belief that PCs will run better is an assumption; actual performance hinges on both the game and your system. Playing all titles at default settings can lead to slowdowns, especially with games capped at 30 FPS like NFS Rivals or Batman Arkham Knight (now fixed).
3.) Console gaming isn’t suitable for beginners. Any PC player who claims otherwise is mistaken.
4.) Results vary based on your setup.
5.) They’re overstating the situation. It’s not that simple to remove a PCIe cover. Following the right steps should avoid issues. Consoles also have their own troubleshooting features.
6.) You don’t need an expensive keyboard, particularly with Steam’s Big Picture Mode. A basic model for around $5 should suffice. You can also connect your PC to a TV for viewing.
7.) They’re incorrect. Many console titles are limited to 30 FPS, and higher frames per second generally improve the experience. That’s a known fact. Higher FPS gets you closer to realistic performance, which most games aim for. If it’s about FPS titles, a keyboard/mouse is more precise than a controller. Yet, controllers are an option for many FPS games.
8.) Assume online PC gaming matches console quality—it’s free to play and Steam offers strong promotions.
9.) That’s my perspective. Edited January 3, 2016 by Godlygamer23
Then a different aspect. Joysticks are less accurate than a mouse. Even so, we can use a controller if we so desire.
I'm using a 2011 GPU that cost nothing special but still packs a lot of power. My old CPU is being upgraded to an i5 4670K for £150, and the motherboard is already £60. Upgrading games has made a big difference compared to playing on older cards like the 7770 or GTX 580. I went for 4K DSR with GTA IV, but the graphics settings didn’t go all the way, causing drops in performance from 45-50 FPS down to single digits. I pushed it too far, so I switched to native and then used Icenhancer. It really improved the visuals—better lighting, almost no jaggies left. It looks much better now. I’m still working on textures for my project and think it’s a good upgrade. For consoles, I’m wondering if it’s worth continuing this path.
