Hi, I bought an MSI PRO Z690-P DDR4 for a 13600k and haven’t opened it yet. I thought it came with BIOS Flashback, but it doesn’t seem to be there. I’ve heard they include Intel 12 presets, but I don’t have an Intel 12 CPU for updating the BIOS. Before returning it, I want to confirm whether it’s possible to update the BIOS without an Intel 12 processor. Also, I read that newer models often include Intel 13 BIOS—how can I find out if this is the case before trying?

You could try an external BIOS flasher, though they tend to be quite frustrating to use. It might be simpler to return them and obtain a different one or take them to a repair shop for a BIOS update before you begin building. More recently produced boards often include a BIOS that supports a 13th generation CPU right out of the box. Sometimes a label on the board or packaging indicates the model date or current BIOS version, though this hasn’t been common on MSI boards. You could attempt a reverse search using the serial number to determine the manufacturing date, but I haven’t tried this with an MSI unit, so it’s unclear if it will work for your setup.
