That's quite a small win. It's clear tooth paste works well as a thermal paste, which isn't surprising. What really stands out is the way you adjusted the pins on the motherboard—it's impressive!

It seems likely because most chips have minimal critical areas at the edges. This extra space mainly helps with heat release. Clearly, they aren't completely protected from damage at the corners, but if a chip needs some bumps, those spots are usually the weakest. Probably avoid targeting them with threadrippers, since their inner parts are positioned right near the corners and you'd be more likely to harm the chip that way.
