Hello everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my I7-4790K. I think it's getting a bit slow (my I5-9400F works much better elsewhere). I'm considering a Ryzen 5 3600 I5-9600KF. What should I choose and what shouldn't I? Thanks! My main PC is the I7-4790K with Asus VII Ranger, Corsair H100i, MSI GTX1070, and Twin Frozr with dual channels, 16GB DDR3 at 2400Mhz. The second PC uses an I5-9400F, MSI GTX970, dual channels, 16GB DDR4 at 2666Mhz, and Asus Prime B360-K.
i5s aren't really a good deal now since the Ryzen 5 3600 performs similarly to the i7 8700 in many situations. The R5 handles heat better, operates more quietly, consumes less power, offers upgrade options, and delivers superior performance. The 9600KF is stuck on a platform riddled with vulnerabilities.
Currently, purchasing Intel isn't usually advised unless you're looking for new components—they need to reorganize their situation first. The 3600 offers the best balance of performance and value right now. For more budget-friendly options, the Ryzen 5 1600AF and 2600 are excellent choices. Aim for at least 3000MHz with dual-channel (two sticks) if possible.
RAM performance plays a significant role in Ryzen systems. Aim for at least 3000MHz, preferably 3200, and ensure dual-channel configuration for optimal results.
