AMD to Intel replacement – drivers needed?
Hey everyone, I'm considering a switch from AMD to Intel in the coming months. That means moving from a 2700X to a 10900K and from a 2070 Super to a 3090. I'll keep using the same boot drive and install the same Windows setup on all drives connected to the new motherboard. Do I have to remove any AMD software—like chipset or sound drivers—before making this change, or should the system just skip the outdated AMD components and find the Intel/Z490 support it requires? The 5th generation bios for B450 will arrive in January, allowing for a gradual replacement. Regarding drives, focus on the chipset drivers—you can likely handle that yourself.
It’s a smart move to remove the drivers. A complete fresh installation of Windows would be ideal, even if it means wiping everything out. Starting with a clean setup can be very beneficial.
I understand - but honestly I’m buried in so much content for this build that I’d struggle to recall what’s there. Plus, I use Flight Simulation on Prepar3d and have packed quite a few add-ons on my secondary drives (all tied back to the main Windows install). It’s a lot! I don’t want to waste time relinking everything later. Still, I appreciate your point. My Windows setup seems pretty tidy too—I usually keep only what I really need, which keeps things clean.
