AMD SVM causes minor stuttering issues.
I was hoping to check if anyone else has encountered this problem, and whether a solution exists. I’m experiencing some really bothersome microstutters dropping to 0 FPS when SVM is turned on, especially in Valorant where those brief moments are crucial. To give you some background, SVM stands for AMD’s virtualization feature. By default, it’s disabled in most BIOS settings, even on my X570 tomahawk. I’ve tested all available BIOS versions, but the issue persists across every system I can use with my 5900X. For my work, enabling SVM is essential to run smoothly with WSL, and having to manually adjust the BIOS each time I switch between gaming and productivity modes is really frustrating. I’ve observed that when SVM is active, these stutters happen randomly but tend to coincide with actions like shooting or using abilities—often followed by a sudden frame drop to zero and a jump in CPU frame time from about 1 ms to around 6 ms. Physical memory usage shifts dramatically, going from normal levels to nearly full capacity (from ~8GB to ~20GB). This pattern is consistently reproducible.
I understand the thread is quite outdated, but I'm still encountering the same issue. I'm having trouble finding a fix that doesn't involve turning off SVM. I'm using hardware similar to yours—MSI X570 GAMING PRO CARBON WIFI and 5950X. Have you considered submitting a repro with Windows Feedback? It's really frustrating while playing!
