I'm setting up my home office workstation with the current specifications: AMD RYZEN 7 3800X, ASUS Prime X570-Pro, Kingston KSM26ED8/16ME with 16GB DDR4 ECC RAM, and an SSD. On the Asus website it mentions ECC support, but no specific memory recommendation. The Kingston board is compatible with the ASUS AM4 PRO WS X570-ACE, though it has many extra features I don’t need. I’m considering adding more RAM for about $200. Is this a sensible setup?
Ryzen offers unofficial support for ECC unbuffered dimms. For QLVM or suggested RAM, any DDR4 ECC memory should be fine. Focus less on QLVM lists and more on your specific tasks. The PSU is usually sufficient, though it depends on your workload. I don’t know the GPU you’re using.
Occasionally I keep the workstation running around the clock for light deep learning or heavy CPU tasks. The Power Supply Calculator indicates I need 500W, but I plan to upgrade to a larger GPU at some point.
They often give wrong answers most of the time, but let's clarify what you're using. But to address the main point again, Ryzen does allow ECC without buffering unofficially, so just verify they're not using buffered dimming.

The amount doesn't determine quality, all these options will last and perform well.
