Hi there! I'm new to this space. I just started building my first gaming rig (El Cheapo, the real one). I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU and GPU but am worried about cost. Can you tell me if using a CPU with built-in graphics and a separate GPU causes the CPU's graphics to turn off automatically? Also, does that disable the graphics entirely or just limit their performance? And if it does disable them, what happens to the graphics capabilities?

You have the option to turn off the internal GPU in the BIOS or keep both the dedicated GPU and the built-in one active. Disabling the built-in GPU doesn’t mean the capacity is assigned to the CPU.

Many BIOS systems turn off the internal graphics chip (commonly referred to as iGPU) when they sense a different GPU is present. This means you simply need to install the new card and that’s it—no further action required.
