AMD Radeon drivers and software issues causing crashes or removal.
Hello, thanks for your patience! I've been using my 5700xt (msi) for about two and a half years. The software has been failing repeatedly—sometimes daily, other times multiple times each day. It isn't just the graphics app; the GPU drivers keep crashing too, often showing errors like "drivers have hung." This happens during games such as FPS titles, Valorant, Apex, CS:GO, but it really affects any game. I'm writing this after watching the software fail three times while browsing. To be clear, I see the icon appearing in the bottom-right corner multiple times, and when I hover over the older versions it disappears. If I check the Radeon section, it says something about settings being restored to defaults. The drivers themselves have been removed, but I still get a frozen screen or a blank desktop if I try to play. It feels like a factory reset.
I've dealt with screen flickering before, but now I'm worried about brightness issues—like the screen shimmers but the colors change. As for fixes I've tried, I've reinstalled drivers, used DDU, updated thermal settings, swapped out the fan cooler, and even contacted MSDS asking them to test it on another machine. They suggested a different build. Recently, I updated my BIOS (recommended for AMD) and still see more problems. The issue seems to be getting worse.
My system specs are: GPU 5700xt, MB 570, CPU 5900X Ryzen9, RAM 3600MHz, SSD and HDD, PSU around 750W (though I used a 1000W one before), OS is Windows 11. I've also built another machine with completely different components. I've reinstalled Windows several times now.
If you need more details or have other questions, let me know. Thanks for your help!
The process was adjusted for clarity and flow. Key points were reorganized to highlight troubleshooting steps in order. The suggested approach starts with checking common issues like faulty cables or outdated drivers. If those don’t help, the guide recommends physically disconnecting the GPU and resetting it. It also advises bypassing the GPU entirely by connecting directly to the motherboard’s video port. Each action is explained to ensure understanding and proper execution.
I usually complete it once I’m done, since it’s simpler, but I lost focus and pressed the submit button before finishing.
It's a decent game with multiple slots, different cables, and several monitors. I've experimented with various ports before this problem started. From what I know, DDU works better at uninstalling drivers than using Device Manager—it usually replaces the outdated version instead of just removing it.
I was nervous about it, and I truly don’t want to make it worse. I don’t feel comfortable with the thought of using something refurbished!
