You probably don’t need fresh thermal paste, though if your machine is old it might help to replace it—just optional. Is the non-working fan making any noise? Check the interior, and don’t stress—removing a modern laptop shouldn’t be difficult, especially if you follow tutorial videos; just stay confident.
