@jhung The thread you referenced asked if BD PROCHOT was cleared in ThrottleStop. You should address the fan problem too. Heat problems in laptops can be annoying. You probably don’t need fresh thermal paste, though if your machine is old it might help to replace it—just optional. Is the non-working fan making any noise? From past experience, my cooling fan dried out and required extra lubrication which resolved the issue. Check the interior, and don’t stress—removing a modern laptop shouldn’t be difficult, especially if you follow tutorial videos; just stay confident.

My broken fan makes a few noises when it starts but then stops. I think disassembling it might help identify the problem, though I don’t want to replace the rubber feet or adhesive that cover the screws. The CPU rarely exceeds 35°C, and it doesn’t feel hot. I was curious if there are tools similar to ThrottleStop for AMD chips, since it would disable the BD PROCHOT signal until the temperature reaches a limit.

Avoid trying to work around safety mechanisms in this case. Also consider that the CPU power VRMs could be losing cooling; although they usually shut down when reaching max temps, the power controller might restrict their current draw instead.

Ensure the tape adhesive is removed too, so the rubber feet stay intact and can be used again.
