amd fx 9800p overclock help
Hey i just bought a new laptop for college the hp envy x360 with a amd fx 9800p 7th generation processor. I produce music in fl studio and have cpu issues and am trying to overclock my computer. On every website it shows my base frequency as 2.7ghz with a 3.6ghz turbo frequency. I downloaded amd overdrive but it says no amd processor detected or processor compatible. If it is not compatible then how do I increase my speed, I only want to increase it to about 3ghz.
Here is my laptop:

I agree that laptop processors aren't ideal for overclocking. You might attempt third-party tools to push the frequency, but you'll hit thermal limits quickly. If you're willing to disassemble your new laptop, consider removing the original thermal paste from the CPU and applying a better quality alternative. This should provide a noticeable temperature reduction for experimenting with forced overclocking. Regarding turbo frequency, check your BIOS settings to confirm Turbo is enabled or disabled.

I agree with the point that laptop processors aren't ideal for overclocking. You might attempt some third-party software to force an overclock, but you'll hit your thermal limits quickly. If you're willing to disassemble your new laptop, consider removing the original factory Thermal Paste from the CPU and applying a high-quality alternative. This could provide a few degrees of temperature difference for experimenting with forced overclocking. Regarding Turbo Frequency, check your BIOS settings to see if Turbo is enabled or left on Auto/Disabled. Thank you for your response—I reviewed my BIOS and found very limited options, especially no turbo boost or overclocking features. It seems the issue might be related to the stock motherboard. Appreciate the assistance; I might need to consider taking the laptop apart.
No issue at all.
As you observed, the available choices in bios are limited, which is typical for laptops because of heat constraints. This isn't a major concern. There are alternatives, though they are less widespread and can be more complicated.
I wouldn't suggest pushing the CPU beyond its limits. It's too risky for me personally.
Quote from FL Studio Dev. website:
'The faster your CPU the more channels you will be able to run simultaneously and/or the more effects you will be able to use.'
Is this the reason you're seeking a quicker processor?
I can suggest some other useful programs.
For my studio work I rely on:
Sony Soundforge – great for sound tweaks, effects, etc.
ACID Pro – perfect for fully creating and finishing music (similar to FL Studio), importing the edited tracks I made in Soundforge.
There are more options but these two stand out to me.
Hope this is helpful...
