The idle readings seem off unless the surrounding air is close to freezing. The FX-8350’s temperature display isn’t reliable at low temperatures and works better as it nears its maximum operating temperature (Tjmax), thanks to the offset and thermal margin. For guidance, refer to the explanation on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/co...rature_of/. A higher thermal margin is preferable. AMD Overdrive was the top choice, but the site now links to Ryzen Master. It’s unclear if Ryzen Master supports the FX-8350, but you might want to test it. https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/ryzen-master

As discussed, idle temps sit between 15°C and 18°C, while room temperature stays around 21°C. During gameplay with non-triple A titles, temperatures rise to 43°C to 51°C. I monitor these using CUPID HWMonitor. Why do the readings seem inconsistent?

Idle times must stay above ambient levels. The temperature display seems incorrect. The Reddit discussion clarifies how the FX-8350's temp value is calculated. Essentially, it's unreliable until it hits the maximum operating temperature.

You're questioning the readings from CPUID HWMonitor, wondering if they're accurate. Your current setup is standard for tracking temperatures across all your machines. If the software isn't correct, you'll look for an alternative.

Yes but the issue is due to how the sensor on the FX-8350 works. I don't know of any accurate way to read idle temps for that cpu. Idle temps are typically >10c above ambient so probably >30c in your case. The best option is to look at the a thermal margin reading instead of a temperature reading since low idle temps don't really matter.
