Is there any information about suitable coolers for an AMD Dual-Core Processor E1-1200? The socket details are unclear, so it's best to check compatible options before purchasing.
The CPU is installed in the FT1 socket, designed for thin clients and embedded systems. It seems unlikely anyone has created a third-party cooler for this type of socket. I’m surprised such a power-hungry chip could overheat like that—it’s almost impossible. This machine is essentially outdated tech, and if someone tries to sell it, they’re likely taking advantage.
He just needs a PC and I have this device too. I included a photo of the cooler for reference. I plan to make some upgrades at a low cost. He’s only had consoles and wants to try a PC, which is the best he can get right now—mostly a laptop running XP.
Aside from an SSD there's nothing worth putting into that computer. It was incredibly low end when it was new, and it uses a super low end CPU from nearly 11 years ago. Depending on the age of that laptop it might be more powerful than this desktop. I'm not joking. If you clean it up that stock cooler is plenty for the E1-1200. For the sake of your friend I really hope you aren't asking much for this computer.
If he’s been limited to just consoles, it seems likely he’ll be forced to switch back to them. He’ll probably face a really tough experience and quickly leave the PC in favor of consoles.
The Xbox One and PS4 (base models) from 2013 offer significantly greater performance compared to this PC. They feature two Bobcat cores, while both consoles are built on the Jaguar architecture, which succeeded Bobcat IIRC. Comparing them can be tricky since they used PowerPC chips, but if I mentioned the Xbox 360 and PS3 were more capable, you wouldn’t doubt me. According to what I’ve learned, the PS3’s Cell CPU was exceptionally strong for its era, though it posed considerable challenges to manage.
