AMD CPU Low FPS in Games
AMD CPU Low FPS in Games
Recently I've noticed reduced frame rates in titles such as GTA V singleplayer and Apex Legends. Despite my PC not being top-tier, I think performance could reach 60 FPS in these games. Initially, I updated my BIOS since I last installed it, but that didn't fix the issue. Next, I attempted to swap out the CPU and cleaned the socket with isopropyl alcohol, checking for bent pins; no problems were found. After repasting the parts, FPS remained low. Then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers via DDU, but after reinstalling, 60 FPS wasn't achieved. The only option left was to reformat and reinstall Windows. Assistance would be invaluable.
This setup looks suitable for the hardware you have. It might need some adjustments for optimal performance, but it’s a 4-core, 4-thread system on the first-gen Ryzen Node with a 580GB SSD. You could test a fresh drive with a clean Windows install to check, though you probably won’t see much improvement.
GTA V runs poorly on ultra settings. In Apex Legends, your CPU usage nears 100%, which is problematic. If this occurs in the game, check for performance issues—upgrading your CPU is recommended to avoid strain with a Ryzen 5.
Are you linking your HDMI cable to the graphics card rather than the motherboard back? Is your resolution set to 1080p? What graphics options are active? If MSAA is at 8x, it explains why you only see 22fps in GTA V. Your system might not be powerful enough, so turn it off.
I understand it's a 4-core, 4-thread setup but it still works. You can find tutorials on YouTube using 570 and 580 settings. I've been using it at 60 fps last month, but recently performance dropped to around 30 fps.
I run high difficulty in GTA V and minimal settings in Apex Legends.
I resolved the issue by using an older driver version Adrenalin 2020 20.1.4. Now I'm achieving 100 fps in Apex Legends at the lowest settings. I plan to upgrade to a 5600X soon. Thanks for your response. Additionally, AMD drivers are problematic; I'm considering an RX 6600 XT for cost savings but might opt for an RX 3060/Ti instead, or wait for the RTX 4000 series.
It sounds like you're considering a balance between performance and cost. You’re thinking about using a regular 5600 for efficiency and then upgrading to the 3060 Ti for gaming. I understand why AMD cards can sometimes stay above their price, but they seem to offer better value now. Nvidia still leads in popularity thanks to improved drivers and reliability. After my experience with the 5600X, I’m hesitant about going back to an AMD GPU again. The crashes were frustrating and hard to fix, though changing the RAM helped a bit. I’m still satisfied with my setup, but stability took time to achieve.
