I'm having trouble getting my FX4300 onto the Am3+ motherboard. It seems to be shifting awkwardly if you know what I mean, and there aren't any bent pins.

Are you adjusting the CPU in the correct orientation? (Check for matching triangles on the motherboard socket and CPU)

It will move slightly before you retract the pin. Have you actually moved the pin back down?

I followed the instructions and pushed the lever upward as shown, but noticed the processor only partially inserted—one side went in while the other didn’t. It seems a diagonal orientation wouldn’t fit properly.

It seems there could be some debris in the socket. Make sure to inspect every opening. Use a gentle vacuum (lowest setting) and attempt again.
