The main topic is the title, describing your situation with an AMD GPU and encountering error 202 during software installation due to a stalled Windows update. You're considering avoiding a full Windows reinstall because of this issue.

I completed the task. I used a tutorial because this is my initial experience with sewing. Someone suggested testing it in safe mode, which I plan to do next.

I determined the solution. First, I installed the minimal version, then updated it using the installer again for a complete setup.

Consider updating your system with a clean install if you've changed your CPU or motherboard. Regarding your question, AMD software may not install until all Windows updates are applied. If the update is linked to your previous CPU model, it can be challenging to prevent. You might find helpful tools online that explain how to prevent certain updates. When an update gets stuck, searching for "How to clear Windows update cache" could reveal steps to remove any ongoing updates.

I switched the GPU from Nvidia to AMD just to maximize adrenaline software performance. The Windows update has been stuck for six months and this was the first issue I encountered. I've tried clearing the cache, using troubleshooters, resetting the system while keeping files, but nothing worked. Now it's functioning properly, so I'll focus on it later if problems arise.
