Hey everyone, I’m planning to upgrade my PC for 1080p gaming and possibly higher resolutions later. I’m thinking about installing a new GPU such as the 5070 or 9070 XT. I’m unsure whether a B650 or B850 motherboard is better since I mainly focus on performance versus cost. Also, if you have any suggestions for PC builds to consider, I’d appreciate it. My PSU is an XPG CORE REACTOR II with 850W.

I’d choose an 8xx series board—it’s more recent and probably receives more BIOS updates down the line. The 6xx models are often more affordable and you can usually find used ones if you’re looking to cut costs.

They're essentially the same resolution—1440p works just fine. Look for the most affordable motherboard with the features you need, like enough NVMe ports and USB connections. Make sure all slots work together without conflicts. The board itself doesn't really affect speed; it's mainly a connection point. What matters most are the components: GPU, CPU, RAM, and SSD.

Sure, I can find a B650 for 50 euros cheaper than a good B850.

I don't have a specific recommendation, but I can help you decide based on your needs. What are you planning to build or upgrade?

It varies based on your requirements. Consider the number of USB ports, PCIe slots, and whether you need PCIe 5.0. I suggest checking reviews first:

I'm working with a tomahawk B650 equipped with a 7700X. I plan to retain the board when upgrading to a 9800X3D. My NVMe setup has three slots, each running a 4070 Super, plus two SATA drives—a SSD and a Blu-ray—all on the same board or chipset. It's all working smoothly.

I won’t purchase this CPU, I just require a solid budget AM5 processor. Also, according to the specifications, if you need a B650 or B850 motherboard, that’s what you should consider.

Your question is about choosing a motherboard for your 5070 or 9070 xt GPUs. You're wondering if getting a B650 with PCIe 4.0 offers similar benefits to a B850 with PCIe 5.0, especially since you're looking to save around 50 euros.
