AM5 issues and 7800X3D results
Have anyone shared feedback or comparisons on CPU performance following these latest BIOS and AEGSA updates? Does this impact only manual overclocking, or are we now focusing on "7800X3D is best if it doesn<|pad|>?"? I'm searching for articles to understand what caused the issues and found a post from Igor's lab that explains the underlying reasons. I've switched to AMD now after years with Intel, so checking Linus's YouTube channel might help—I want to know if the AM5 problems are still relevant.
Issue isn't originating from AMD side (generally), the components got damaged because ASUS didn't adhere to specifications and applied 1.4V to VSOC during EXPO, causing failure over time after updating to a new BIOS. Non-ASUS boards are safer, or if you manually set VSOC below 1.3V it's acceptable.
Gigablow is also responsible here. Everyone followed the Asus trend, AMD mentions AGESA, and board partners understand from AMD.
It's understandable to feel that way, but it seems like the responsibility lies with them. They failed to inform users about the dangers of 1.4v and didn't properly enforce the specifications. In fact, it's possible they didn't anticipate the risks involved, which is why this issue still exists.
Most people apply that amount of voltage to VSOC, according to what I've heard from companies like Gigabyte and MSI. They also use it as a baseline for auto-OC, which suggests they believe it will function well, though possibly with a shorter lifespan for the CPU.
