AM5 boards featuring two x16 (x8/x8) PCIe ports
I'm looking at some builds where a friend is using dual RTX 3090/4090 GPUs on the AM5 platform. Most boards seem to have just one or two x16 slots, rarely offering more than x4 or x1. The only known option with an x8 slot is the Proart X670e Creator, but it's currently out of stock. It's really hard to find resources that match these exact specifications. Are there other motherboards you've heard about that include an x8 port?
Yes, you can proceed with rendering, AI tasks, calculations, and more—standard links work just fine.
These x8/x8 boards are becoming very scarce these days, mainly because SLI/Crossfire is almost gone. The 4090 model doesn’t even offer it—it lacks SLI connectors. It’s possible the Proart is the rare X670 board that still supports this feature. What are you really aiming to achieve?
Many budget X670 boards provide just two PCI-E slots, one for full x16 bandwidth from the CPU and another from the chipset. Premium models often include three additional slots, delivering x8 from the CPU and x4 from the chipset. Identifying the exact configuration requires reviewing available motherboard listings and consulting manuals. Note: MSI and ASRock offer several X670E variants with similar specifications.
I looked for a motherboard matching a similar setup. The best choice I discovered was the Asus ProArt B650-CREATOR: https://www.asus.com/motherboards-compon.../techspec/. It includes two PCIe 4.0 x16 ports (supports either x16 or x8/x8 configurations).
Same problems with a dual RTX 3090 setup—one GPU has an x16 slot, the other an x2. Machine learning functions well until I add the second GPU. I discovered the ASRock X670E Taichi Carrara can handle "2 x PCIe 5.0 x16 slots (PCIE1 and PCIE2), supports x16 or x8/ x8 modes." It's not inexpensive, so I'm still searching for better options.
Some choices were mentioned, but none seem very affordable. I’ll stick with my AM4 configuration anyway.
