I believe am4 is still alive and darn useful, and DDR5 won’t arrive in Zen 3. The next generation will be at or above 7nm.

Am4 is expected to remain supported until the end of 2020. DDR5 could (likely) debut alongside the new AMD CPUs in 2021.

no one claimed am4 was gone, according to the official announcement it was still active in 2020; this suggests a new phase.

This is more like a status update. But no, AM4 isn't dead yet. Even when it's not supported, anymore, by new CPUs, it still won't be dead.

I've consistently read until the end of 2020. I'll search for that AMD presentation if needed. Maybe I misread it all along, hehe.

I interpret it as "up to and including 2020"—meaning any release in that year remains AM4.

It depends on how much the architecture changes between Zen 3 and Zen 2 versus Zen 2 and Zen+. Right now, DDR5 isn’t available for servers yet, so there’s no urgency even if we move to newer sockets like AM4.
