Alternative version of Fraps
Alternative version of Fraps
I've been searching for a better alternative for a while now. Nothing seems to work. The options I've tried (don’t recommend these):
- Bandicam – they changed a lot and now I really don’t trust it. Videos always look terrible, no matter what I do.
- Dxtory – just a waste of time. Only Minecraft was ever detected or recorded. They gave no help, their support was useless.
- Fraps – too slow on CPU, 10-minute video without lossless is longer than Windows itself.
- Hypercam – nothing useful.
- Raptr – just terrible.
My GPU is an AMD one, so shadowplay isn’t an option. I won’t suggest AMD Raptr since we all know it’s bad. OBS also doesn’t work well with my screen resolution and can’t record properly. I’m on a CRT if you want to know why.
For DXTory, it only recognizes Minecraft. I changed windowed and fullscreen settings but still didn’t get anything detected.
That's the only alternative I had in mind. Bandicam works well when you turn on H.264 and choose quality at 100.
Bandicam with H.264 fails to record properly, only crashing during use.
I previously worked with Bandicam, which can capture high-quality recordings when configured properly. Now I’m using OBS, and the issue seems linked to wrong resolution settings. You might want to try again. (I prefer NVIDIA GPUs over AMD mainly because of shadowplay... That performance drop is minimal.) What’s your system setup? It could be that it isn’t suitable for recording.
They set these tools incorrectly, so if nothing works for you, the most common solution is what others typically use.
Software ignores the specifics of your monitor. It only needs to understand the resolution. If you're using a 4:3 or 5:4 format, you'll encounter black bars on wider screens. OBS, like most current programs, is set up for widescreen content. The videos will match your screen size, but audiences on platforms such as YouTube and Twitch may still notice black bars.
