Hi, I understand your concerns about Windows Explorer. It can be slow and prone to crashes, especially when handling large amounts of files. You mentioned trying Linux, which offers much faster performance and reliability. The "search everything" tool you used works well but isn’t a complete replacement. Other options like Tera-Copy have similar issues with background behavior. I’d appreciate any suggestions for alternatives that could improve speed and stability without relying on registry edits.

Is it certain Windows functions properly since a big data move shouldn’t cause system failure?

I concur with @emosun. Should there be crashes, I’d want to investigate further. For an alternative to Windows Explorer: Directory Opus offers similar functionality with enhanced features.

Yes, sure. It usually crashes about 95% of the time when I try to move all my phone data. I mostly look for other options since it's really slow. It's strange, nobody complains about it. I'm not alone. I used a Windows 7 laptop in the past, my home tower updates to Windows 10 every six months (i5 3570k, GTX 1060) and my MS Surface Pro 7 is definitely running Windows 10. Every device seems to have the same problem. The Explorer search is extremely slow.

I understand the situation could stem from damaged Windows files. Your hardware appears fine, though it might not be the latest version. Consider reinstalling Windows or switching to Linux for transferring files from your phone.

I shouldn't have shared that it sometimes crashes. My main worry is its sluggish performance. I appreciate Astetic, but file searches with Explorer are always slow across all devices I've used. Whether it's the latest or oldest hardware—SSD or HDD—I always experience the same issue. Did you see this too?

I don't face any performance problems with my 10-year-old Core i7 930. An old SSD connected via SATA-2 might be the cause of slow speeds. Depending on your usage, issues could stem from missing indexing, Windows scanning file details, or handling large zip archives. If File Explorer freezes, it may indicate a faulty SATA cable or drive. Linux search functions are minimal and typically just read the drive journal by default. Another chance is an add-on or extension for File Explorer was installed—possibly disrupting normal operation. The solution would likely involve checking the hardware connections or uninstalling any third-party extensions.
