Thank you for your assistance. I plan to try owncloud and hope the setup won’t be too complicated. One more thing for fellow users: if I have the owncloud client on the same network as the other devices, can I still enjoy speeds better than my ISP offers? Appreciate your help!

if they are on a LAN it should follow the network rate you're using. to confirm, for any client that never leaves the network (like a desktop) I'd rely on the server's internal IP for setup. for devices such as phones, I'd use the DNS record you choose to configure, if you set one up (it's a good idea).

Your internet speed is limited by your ISP; you can't exceed it unless you switch plans.

I hope your existing 8MB connection works for now. If not, I’ll look into ways to improve it. Thanks for sharing the details.

i haven't experienced an 8mbps upload, don't worry haha. it's just a contract at that speed. speedtest.net shows about 9mbps download and 2mbps upload, which is roughly 0.25mbps upload.

Outside your local network, your speed will be restricted. Inside, you're free from ISP limits and only constrained by the slowest connection between your device and the server. If all links are Gigabit, you could potentially reach maximum speeds—though your storage device might still slow things down. Any link with less than that will cap performance.

Thank you for the details. I'll proceed with testing it and compare the results to your current setup.

Testing is definitely the best approach.
