Alternative to Dropbox is OneDrive or Google Drive.
Hello, I understand you're seeking a Dropbox alternative. I'm currently using Dropbox and am pleased with it, but I'm curious about options that offer:
- Unlimited storage capacity
- Full privacy control
- Greater responsibility for reliability
I'd appreciate suggestions on how to achieve a similar experience without these limitations. Let me know if you have any ideas or resources in mind!
I previously used BitCasa for its unlimited storage feature, but I’m uncertain about its current reliability. Alternatively, you could set up your own cloud storage solution.
The only solution is to set up or purchase a personal NAS and create your own cloud. Apart from that, Google Drive functions well for me.
It works well overall. I tested it on my RPi, but it’s quite demanding for that device. It should run smoothly even on a basic desktop computer.
Initially I wondered about "NSA." The oldest methods were SSH or SCP, existing long before cloud storage like Dropbox. What matters most is they've always kept data secure during transmission; newer tools such as rsync and the current SSH version are now called OpenSSH.
I operate it on a raspi and everything functions well, just the web interface feels a bit sluggish. Setting it up wasn’t overly complicated. Overall, I really enjoy it. It even includes an Android version, allowing automatic syncing of photos and videos along with all the other features. I have a 500gb external drive on my pi, giving me plenty of capacity for syncing. The main limitation comes from the internet connection you connect the raspberry pi to—so upload speeds won’t be very fast, which means cloud downloads will be slower than ideal. This note is for OP.
Well. The NSA will get hold of your files that are stored on the server no matter what, so i guess it is a NSA server.
