I assembled my rig about four years ago and it performed well until now. It’s started showing lag, freezing, and unresponsive behavior recently. I cloned the drive to a new one but didn’t make any adjustments—swapped RAM and GPU without success. The issue persists with a message about a potential Ethernet driver problem; all troubleshooting steps failed. After replacing the Wi-Fi card, the same error appeared after connecting to the router. My current system is an MSI Z370 Sli Plus with an Intel i5-8400, 16GB Ballistix RAM, MSI 1650 GPU, and a 4TB Baracuda SSD (Intel Optane disabled).
I've attempted to install network drivers manually, but received a warning about unsupported hardware. This issue applies to the on-board Ethernet from the manufacturer's site. A fresh installation would require three months of effort just to reinstall everything. My games have mods that need precise ordering, and I risk losing significant progress if I spend an hour daily fixing things.
I'm also thinking this way. I've swapped out the HDD, RAM, and GPU, but the issues persist. Now the on-board Ethernet and Wi-Fi card aren't showing up at all. Plus, the CPU is constantly running at full capacity even when background tasks are minimal—just a few programs are active.
Could try extracting the files from the previous 2TB drive because storage was getting full. Need to check available space before deciding which portable drive to use.
I ran a clean installation on an old storage device to check if network drivers would function, and they did. It seems my operating system and drivers got messed up when I copied the drive to a bigger one. I'm trying to restore network functionality so that once I build my new PC, I can easily move my files and apps over.
