All my computer slows down during regular heavy tasks
I constructed this machine a year ago with all components brand new. I spend a lot of time playing COD every day for hours. Recently, my PC began to slow down significantly. Initially, I observed that my audio would freeze and my game frame rates dropped from 120 to 80. After reinstalling the audio driver, the problem persisted. I updated Windows and tried again, but it still lagged and froze. Whenever there was a delay, even the mouse cursor would slow down. I suspected the issue might be related to Windows, so I installed a new version and it worsened things. Now, even with a fresh OS, my CPU struggles to manage tasks like driver installation or gameplay. It keeps lagging and freezing. Even when streaming YouTube videos, it sometimes works fine but then freezes again. I found a report from Hwinfo indicating "power reporting deviation"—it says a score below 100% means the motherboard is underreporting power usage, causing the CPU to overcompensate, raising voltage and temperature. I attached a screenshot of that. After extensive research, I used LatencyMon to detect several problems. Disabling audio drivers helped reduce latency, but another kernel driver appeared with high latency afterward. I’m confused about these terms and unsure how to resolve them. This is really frustrating. My system specs are: Ryzen 5 3600, RX 2060, B450 Tomahawk, max 512 GB SSD, Corsair CX650 Bronze, 16 GB RAM, 3200 MHz memory.
Power reporting changes aren't adjustable by end users on most motherboards. This data comes from algorithms that can show large swings because the metric ranges from 0 to 255, while CPU demands shift quickly. It doesn’t directly point to lag problems. If your CPU usage was erratic or consumption seemed off without boosting properly, we’d still use the same diagnostic steps. But if the CPU itself appears questionable first, try swapping it out and see if the issue resolves. Have you checked if the CMOS is reset yet?
i updated my bios to the latest version. after doing some online research, i resolved the microsoft storage port driver latency issue by switching from the default amd driver to the windows ahci driver. now i’m experiencing high latency with the nvidia windows kernel mode driver, but i’m not sure why this happens.
i'm not entirely confident, but it seems unlikely. i used a usb drive and installed it from windows, but it wasn't set as the boot drive.
what confuses me is my mouse's DPI. I've been using 900 DPI on Code Mw, but everything feels sluggish in Windows. I can't even operate it properly and had to switch it to 1100 DPI so it works like a regular mouse.
Consider using another mouse and keyboard. It's possible this isn't an unusual problem.
It seems my mouse sensor might be failing. I tested it on my laptop, but the issue persists. I also tried Logitech Gaming software with various DPI settings, and everything matched what I had on my desktop. My model is the Logitech G102 Prodigy. This was a replacement after experiencing double-clicking problems and now the sensor is acting up. I’m wondering if they’ll send another one.
