It might be due to the GPU's clock speed being unstable because its processing chips aren't handling the noise well. When a GPU runs too fast without the right chipset, games can crash unexpectedly. The good news is the solution is simple: after installing MSI after burner, reduce the card's frequency by 120 MHz. This should stop the crashes and you'll lose about 4% of the expected FPS—around 6 FPS less. It won't be noticeable, so you'll probably laugh it off.
However, I'm not pushing the GPU to its limits. If it's behaving erratically at normal speeds then it might be faulty since it isn't performing as advertised. Also, the RTX 3090 didn’t lead to crashes before, which makes me doubt this setup is fully reliable. My most recent issue was a BSOD marked with HYPERVISOR_ERROR—this doesn’t seem connected to the GPU itself.
It's not about pushing it too hard. The GPU's chips aren't strong enough to manage its speed. >.>
Last time the issue was resolved without problems. However, once the hardware stopped functioning properly, things took a turn. If the graphics card isn't stable, a crash to desktop is less likely and more probable outcomes include freezing, a blue screen, or a complete power-off.
Memtest may miss some issues. Have you performed an extended scan? Check if it runs within the regular Windows interface or outside it. A fresh Windows installation might help. You could also test with just one RAM module at a time to rule that out. DLL errors usually point to problematic game installations, but if multiple games are affected, it could be OS corruption or hardware problems.
I question the OS—it's a relatively new setup. Still, after going through a lot of troubleshooting, I ended up completely taking apart my PC, cleaning everything thoroughly, reattaching parts, rearranging cables, swapping connections, removing NVidia drivers and software, wiping all files linked to NVidia, clearing registry entries related to NVidia, restarting, reinstalling drivers and programs. Now my games are running smoothly. It seems the fixes came from a mix of minor issues. Either way, I’ve been able to play Cyberpunk, Borderlands 3, and FS2020 without any crashes for hours. Thanks to the community on this forum, but I’m relieved the hardware is still working. Replacing parts would have been a hassle right now due to current shortages.
Possible issues may involve a faulty driver update along with insufficient signal transmission from the processor to the GPU components.
