I have an older PC equipped with an i5 7600 and a 6GB GTX1060. Over the past six months, most games I play randomly freeze for brief moments—sometimes just a fraction of a second—causing frustration. Even with lower FPS settings, the issue persists, and I still experience stutters and frame drops. This problem has affected games like Overwatch, Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Warzone, and even older singleplayer titles. I’m unsure if the hardware is insufficient or if there’s another factor causing these freezes. Could you provide more details to help diagnose the problem?

this happens in both offline and online games. Make sure your hard drive is in good condition. If you're playing online, examine your packet loss using https://www.pingplotter.com/ to see how your network is performing. Determine whether you're connected via wired or wireless connection and ensure your router/modem's firmware is current.

It's a problem with every game, whether online or offline. I ran an extended test on the hard drive using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics and it completed successfully.

Occasionally a Windows reinstall resolves the issue. You might also consider using an intelligent standby list cleaner (ISLC), which can address certain memory problems, though it doesn't always work. It targets a particular Windows memory issue, so it could be effective if applicable. If you try ISLC, leave all settings unchanged—just restart everything as is.

You can also repaste your CPU and GPU, clean the PC, and verify all cables are securely connected. It’s wise to review some guides before proceeding with any changes.

I attempted ISLC but it didn’t resolve the problem. I also re-pasted my CPU, cleaned the PC, and checked that everything is properly seated—especially the cables. I didn’t re-paste my GPU since I’m unsure how to do that, but the temperatures remain acceptable. The issue still occurs even with games that don’t use the GPU heavily.

It doesn't always assist, but it can be useful in specific cases. It was worth a shot after all.
