All DirectX 12 titles are experiencing crashes?
I’m facing some issues with one of the Rigs I built for my friend. All DirectX 12 games keep crashing. Initially, it was just Warzone with the notorious error code (0x887a0005), but he managed to play FIFA 25 without any problems during four hours of gameplay. However, after attempting various driver changes—especially using DDU and reinstalling drivers in a clean environment—the game started to fail again, accompanied by outdated driver errors even though the latest game driver from NVidia was available.
Since then, the situation has worsened. No matter what fixes I try, nothing works. Here are the details of my setup:
- CPU: i7 14700kf
- MOBO: Rog Strix B760-F Gaming Wi-Fi
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000mhz 32GB (two different brands)
- RAM2: HyperX DDR5 5600mHz 32GB
- GPU: MSI RTX 3060 gaming x OC 12GB
- SSD: 2x SAMSUNG SSD 1TB
- PSU: CoolerMaster 850w +Gold
I’ve tried the following solutions:
• Stopping and restarting GPU drivers
• Repeating the process with a clean boot
• Using DDU to stop and reinstall GPU drivers
• Applying a clean boot this time
• Using older versions of drivers
• Disabling GeForce Now and Nvidia app
• Running Windows Update/scannow and repair tools
• Fresh Windows installation
• Switching from Windows 11 to Windows 10
• Installing CCLeaner, which found 9 outdated MOBO drivers
Despite these efforts, the problem persists. Some observations:
- The system reports no errors in GPU-Z or DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
- Artifacts appeared only at minimum video quality.
- Underclocking the GPU helped extend gameplay but eventually led to crashes after a few minutes or under heavy load.
- When using maximum settings, artifacts vanished.
- XMP enabled during boot caused slower startup and eventual safe mode booting.
Additional attempts:
• Stress testing with Heaven showed no issues at max settings.
• MemtestCL detected 513 errors in random blocks (considered invalid due to known bug and outdated software).
• GPU performance seemed unaffected under heavy load.
• XMP disabled, RAM speed reduced, RAM replaced, GPU swapped, PSU changed—results varied but no consistent fix.
One thing I noticed is that crashes intensified when trying to set the resolution. He’s using a 42-inch TV, connected via HDMI, but the system only displays 1366x768 at native resolution. I also purchased an HDMI 2.1 cable to check if the port issue was the cause.

I won’t try it as a final option. My friend just shared this image of the CPU, could it be the problem here?
I also performed an XTU test and consistently receive current limit and CPU thermal throttle alerts, even when the test completes successfully. Could this be the problem?
yes, he mentioned it slipped while he was assembling but about 5cm away from the table. Aio is a DeepCool Castle 360ex and the sole other component in this build that is second-hand; he managed to buy it for 30bucks. It's possible they offered him a defective unit. In my older setup, the thermal throttle caused many problems, so this might be the cause
Ensure the cooler block is securely fastened to the CPU. Check if one tube is noticeably hotter than the other during operation.
