Alien: Connection of Solitude! [SPOILER-FREE]
Alien: Connection of Solitude! [SPOILER-FREE]
I began downloading Alien: Isolation through Steam a short while ago, and I must admit I'm thrilled. The reviewers are positive, though the main criticism is that the campaign feels quite lengthy. That’s okay with me. I generally dislike horror titles, but I’m a big Alien fan, and this game promises to be intense. What do you think? Are others planning a pre-order? The Nostromo DLC looks appealing, and I snagged it yesterday for a huge discount using a Kokaku promotion. This discussion covers everything about Isolation—feedback, worries, bugs, advice, or just checking if you should buy! REMEMBER - once the release comes around on Tuesday, this thread will stay free of spoilers! Thank you for your understanding!
Complaining about lengthy campaigns? I prefer shorter ones. Most games I’ve played took more than a couple of hours to complete—think Final Fantasy, similar RPGs, or RTS titles with max difficulty. GTA is also on the list. About 99% of campaigns nowadays feel uninspired and low in quality.
To keep the story moving, you’d need a way to extend the adventure beyond the initial time limit. Otherwise, the game would wrap up too quickly.
So far, everything seems perfectly executed. The Alien's AI behaves in unexpected ways, which is actually beneficial. I saw Pewdiepie use it and noticed he activated his flamethrower, allowing the alien to detect him more quickly. However, when he stopped using that tactic, he managed to progress through the game smoothly. That level of detail is impressive. Every time he was eliminated, it was clear what went wrong—there were sounds you thought were just background effects, and there were cues indicating the Alien was approaching. This wasn't just from Pewdiepie's performance either. I also watched others play on YouTube at EGX; most failed and died, which was frustrating. But within about half an hour, a developer appeared and demonstrated the survival mode, successfully handling the challenge. This shows how unpredictable the Alien is—every action you take affects it, so stealth becomes more rewarding when you're cautious. Personally, I think this makes sneaking around more enjoyable, rather than relying on knowing exactly what will happen. It seems to me that embracing the uncertainty is what makes these games exciting.
Mixed opinions were shared. Some outlets criticized it, while others praised it. Positive feedback came from RPS and PC Gamer. I feel confident enough to support them.
I agree the Alien looks good both visually and in design. Moving around makes a sound, and getting too close to the motion tracker will trigger it. It’s going to be intense. At the shows they went through, players were just dropped into the middle of the campaign on tough situations without a fair chance. Still, death happens often, and the screams before he kills you are really unpleasant. I’m really excited, but I think it’ll end up being a loop of short sessions, panic walks, and repeating. I don’t enjoy horror much.
Sure, the feedback is quite polarized. Some people adore it, while others strongly dislike it. Still, there are plenty of reviews to consider. Perhaps IGN and Gamespot should take a step back.
These reviewers seem frustrated because the content feels lengthy and unengaging, like a typical campaign. They also feel the game lacks sufficient guidance. It’s surprising they have to consider playing through alien isolation.
