Between 11PM and 2AM my router pings spike above 100ms. The graph shows increasing latency at each hop. This leads to packet ordering problems in games, causing disconnections. Instead of lengthy explanations, here are the key points:

- Cat5e Ethernet cable
- Laptop runs identical test on same cable
- No issues detected
- Issue emerged after PC upgrade/replacement BIOS and Intel Network Adapter update
- No change observed
- Rest of family remains asleep during these hours
- Likely network congestion not the cause

Check your connection type—DOCSIS, VDSL, wireless, or fiber—and specify the modem if it's DOCSIS.

Speed is currently 12 Mbps up and 127 Mbps down according to Ookla. It's 1:47 AM when I'm testing, which might be influenced by the ongoing problem. The device in use is a Motorola SURFboard SB6120 (DOCSIS 3.0) VDSL; I don't have confirmation until tomorrow morning. No wireless or fiber connection at the moment, unless otherwise.

This indicates it's DOCSIS/coax rather than VDSL. Does your connection slow down during this time too? As someone without a cable background, I'm not familiar with modem specs, but with a 4x4 modem there might be some network congestion... In Canada, providers limit speeds over 75 Mbps to 16x4 or more.

If switching to a laptop fixes the issue, why are we spending time on upstream infrastructure? Check if Windows has the scheduler running and what tasks start around 11 PM. Use Task Manager or Event Viewer to find any unusual activity at that time. It might be related to unnecessary software.

My fiber is fixed, so the problem is resolved now.
