Hello, you're looking to enhance your X299 setup and are considering a 12900K. It seems challenging to find a motherboard with the necessary PCIe slots for two 3090 GPUs. Most boards currently available only offer one PCIe 16x slot and a couple of 4x slots, which isn't ideal for your needs. If you're open to suggestions, there might be options with more PCIe lanes or alternative configurations that could work better for your setup. Let me know if you'd like help exploring those possibilities!

Many Z690 boards come with two x16 slots. The cost depends on your budget.

Is there any support for dual x8 slots? Or did they move to a single x16 slot to meet PCIe 5.0 standards? You might need to hold off until Sapphire Rapids versions are released if you require Intel cores, or consider Threadripper (Pro) as an alternative.

The ASUS Maximus Z690 Extreme supports the bridge slot but costs approximately $850.

You'll need to wait until the end of the year for x499.

You recently tested two 3090 GPUs using a Z690 motherboard. The second GPU seems to run smoothly in X4 mode, which doesn't affect performance.

In a brief review, it seems the Asus Maximus boards accommodate two CPU slots at x8. The price wasn't checked—depends on the use case. Many compute tasks benefit from this, whereas gaming usually doesn't.

It’s unlikely anyone would notice a meaningful distinction even with effort. Puget didn’t observe any change between PCIe 3.0 x8 and PCIe 4.0 x4: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/hpc/PC...rning-1167

I updated my previous comment since you're much quicker than expected. Thanks a lot for all the feedback! I think I'll hold off until x499. (This was my first time learning this, and it really pleased me!) [I'm really disappointed with all these different motherboards out there] Do you know if they're DDR4 or DDR5?
