Hey everyone,
I’m considering setting up a new gaming and VR system (DCS World 2.0 and Oculus Rift) soon. I need to confirm two things: first, whether my setup can be safely overclocked to around 4.8ghz, and second, that the case fits the motherboard and selected air cooler without any issues with RAM or the side panel.
I’m aware of the thermal paste problems on Intel chips and would rather avoid replacing them. It sounds like a tricky and potentially risky process.
The system I’m thinking of includes: an Intel i7 8700k, ASRock Fatal1ty Z370, CRYORIG R1 Ultimate, G.Skill Trident Z 32gb DDR4 3333mhz, Asus ROG Strix 1080ti, a 64gb Biwin SSD for the OS, a WD Gold 2TB 7200rpm HD drive, and an EVGA SuperNOVA 750w all housed in a Fractal Design Meshify C.
I’m aiming for a compact design to keep it suitable for my living room, keeping things quiet and efficient.
I’d really value any advice on the build before I proceed.

No one can ensure it will work at a specific level with a particular air cooler, since all CPUs are different.

SR,
I'm aware there is no guarantee. 4.8ghz is not an expectation, but more the goal/hope. I will check out the R1 Universal. Thanks for the input.
Any idea if the R1 Universal would clear the case? I'm having a hard time finding accurate dimensions to compare the case interior with the cooler height.

The case clearance for coolers is 172mm, while the R1 Universal measures 168mm. This matches the requirements.
