You've been unaware because you didn't notice earlier, and now you're discovering it recently.

It will be available exclusively on Xbox Live, without a Steam release at launch. That's the plan.

I possess the beta version. Age of Empires remains one of the top games, yet the remake seems to alter the original feel with its lower-quality visuals and audio. The updated graphics appear clichéd and overly bright, missing the rich color palette of the original. The new soundtrack is mostly unremarkable, weighed down by excessive reverb. Additionally, the latest soundtrack omits a standout track from the entire AoE series—besides the title theme—which is a major drawback for me. For me, the greatest appeal of the remake will be experiencing the original version, but only if the original soundtrack is included. If not, I wouldn’t consider it a true AoE release. Also, during online beta testing, I noticed noticeable lag—about a full second after clicking actions before the game responded. I suspect this was caused by network issues or early netcode, and I hope future updates will fix that.
