I just assembled my first PC with an I7-9700K CPU. After using Asus AI overclocking, it reaches 5.2 ghz. The GPU is an Asus 2070Super and the power supply is a 650W Asus unit. When I start afterburner auto-clocking, I encounter a blue screen within the first few minutes. My card settings are in stack mode. During stress tests, CPU temperatures stay around 73°C, while GPU stays under 70°C. If I reset the BIOS back to stock and then enable overclocking, it works fine. I’m new to all this stuff.

Your PSU shouldn’t have any concerns running your setup—it’s a modded Seasonic after all. Not every CPU can handle 5.2 and stay stable when the GPU also demands more from your CPU during an OC. If you manage to keep things steady at 4.9-5, I’m happy enough. It’s a bad habit to constantly compare your rig with random benchmarkers who’ll ruin their performance for just a few extra points. The best scores are achieved by specialists who test multiple CPUs until they find the perfect one, so don’t worry about that—focus on getting your system stable and enjoying the games at the FPS you want.

What Mobo are you boosting on that significantly impacts stable overclocking? 5.2 offers a substantial boost and not all chips are suited for it—this depends on the silicon. Achieving it is important, but stability comes next. Have you experimented with GPU tweaks from Asus? I’m aware some dislike them, but I managed to get my RTX 2080 to a solid, stable configuration with +75 clock speed and +400 memory. I’m running it alongside a Ryzen 2700x, so it’s not a direct comparison. This might provide some useful insights and details...

ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO (WI-FI) supports running CPU stress tests without problems at 5.2 ghz. The tests lasted 3-4 hours without issues. GPU adjustments also caused difficulties. The best solution I found was resetting the MOBO to factory settings, then overclocking the GPU first before attempting CPU overclocking. I suspect the PSU might need an upgrade.
