Hello, I received Windows 8 during the holidays for my computer and have since upgraded everything. I’m curious—can I still use the original product key? Or is there a way to install Windows 8 using the disk I already have without purchasing it again?

Yes, you're correct. Sometimes after replacing hardware, you'll need to dial a toll-free number on the screen to enter a code and receive one back to complete the process. One key can be used across multiple machines as long as they're not active simultaneously.

This was my initial idea, but I figured it might be good to verify. I plan to install it tomorrow.

If it comes from a laptop, you can likely apply the same product key on the new PC. Just make sure the key matches the version you have for the new build.

You'd need to turn off Windows in order to utilize the key.

It's an OA, so I doubt it will function properly...
