Hi, I'm just starting out with PC building and recently switched from a Ryzen 3 3200G to a Ryzen 9 5900X. Before that, I was using iGPU with the Ryzen 3, so I bought a GPU—Nvidia 3060—to match the new CPU. After some troubleshooting, I realized the issue only appeared when using the new CPU; the GPU would work fine otherwise. The fans would spin but nothing else. My motherboard still shows VGA and BOOT signals. I noticed the display port was connected to the graphics card, and I updated the BIOS to version 2.8. I've also tried re-seating the RAM and GPU, and upgraded my power supply to 850W, thinking there wasn't enough power.

Do you have a spare GPU available for testing alongside the 5900X? Was it originally new or previously owned?

Can you view the BIOS screen using the 5900x display and GPU? Are you able to utilize the GPU fully with the 3200g? Please verify if the BIOS update was successful—perhaps a re-flash is needed since this MOBO requires a new BIOS for the 5000 series. Ensure the monitor is connected via the correct cable. Remove the CMOS chip and wait briefly, then perform a manual power-on with the PSU disconnected; confirm the motherboard has fully drained before reinserting the battery.

I don’t have any additional GPU for testing, and the CPU was recently purchased.

With the Ryzen 3, the graphics card performed excellently, and I observed a significant boost in gameplay speed. I might consider updating the BIOS next.

Refreshing is a smart move. I'll check the lowest compatible version—specifically bios 1.20—and see if it functions. If it does, we can proceed to the latest release and retest. Otherwise, the issue might be elsewhere.

I kept everything unchanged and simply installed the old CPU. Everything started working fine. I verified my system version was 2.8. I switched it to 1.20, returned to the new CPU, and the same problems persisted. The fans are spinning, the GPU isn’t lighting up, and the motherboard reports an issue with VGA and booting. So now I can confirm there’s no problem with the BIOS version.

The next phase would involve checking the CPU on another motherboard. This appears to be key in identifying the cause of the problem. If you lack one or don’t know someone with a suitable setup, you could have it tested at a repair shop. An alternative is to bring it back for a replacement. A completely dead CPU is possible, though uncommon.
